Nafisa Abiib was born in The Netherlands to Somali parents and currently lives in Birmingham, UK.

 

In her creative practice she focuses on her own family culture. With a carving style influenced by tomb stones and ancient architectural buildings in East Africa.

 

She creates organic forms carved from brick clay which are inspired by pebbles and seed pods. Her intricate patterned surfaces are developed from observations of tree bark and geometry.
